Community Service Hours

All hours must be entered through the Hour Republic Portal

To record hours you will need:

  • the name of person you volunteered for, AND

  • an email address and phone number of that person.

You can start earning hours right after grade 8 graduation!

Things Not Allowed for Community Service:

  • Requirements of a class or course in which the student is enrolled (like co-op)

  • takes place during the time allotted for the instructional program on a school day

  • consists of duties normally performed in the home (i.e., daily chores) or personal recreational activities

  • would normally be performed for wages by a person in the workplace

  • You are not permitted to do community service if the task involves:

    Operation of a vehicle, power tools, or scaffolding

    Administration of any type or form of medication or medical procedure to other persons

    Handling of “designated substances” under the Occupational Health and Safety Act

    Knowledge of a tradesperson whose trade is regulated by the provincial government

    Banking or the handling of securities, or the handling of jewellery, works of art, antiques, or other valuables

    Activities for a court-ordered program (e.g., community-service program for young offenders, probationary program)
